TOP Gear presenter Richard Hammond is being groomed by ITV to be the next “Parky” chat show host.
The Hamster, as he’s affectionately known by his BBC co-presenter, Jeremy Clarkson, has been offered his second tea-time chat show on ITV1, according to insiders.
And they say that this time, if he performs well in the ratings, he may be moved up a gear to Saturday nights – the prime slot recently vacated by Michael Parkinson.
But it could prove to be an uphill task – the show is set to clash with the successful Paul O’Grady Show on Channel 4.
The motoring presenter’s first foray into the chat show format was two years ago when he hosted Richard Hammond’s Five O’Clock Show, also on ITV1.
Insiders say the new show will be a mix of celebrity, music and “fun entertainment”.
A pilot will be filmed by So Television, an independent production company co-founded by Graham Norton.
